Get a folding workbench that really supports 227 kg (500.4 lb) without bending.
This heavy-duty steel hinge bracket with a self-locking latch is made for the Murphy desks, folding workbenches, RV galleys and bed frames you sketched out and then left for later. Each pair supports 227 kg (500.4 lb) without sagging, locks firmly at 90° and folds flat against the wall in about two seconds.
Skip the flimsy fold-out brackets that sag as soon as real weight goes on them.
Most folding brackets are stamped from sheet metal so thin you can bend it by hand. They are advertised at 91 kg (200.6 lb) and sag under 80 kg (176.4 lb) in real-world use. Even worse, many have no solid lock, so one wrong bump of your knee into your workbench sends a router, a vise and your knuckles toward the concrete. You do not need a bracket that only has a rated capacity. You need one that stays put.
➤ Spring-loaded latch clicks shut at 90°: The internal latch snaps into place the moment you open the hinge, so you never have to wonder whether it is locked. Press the release tab on the side to fold it back down.
➤ 0.098" (2.5 mm) thick steel holds 227 kg (500.4 lb) per pair: Cold-rolled steel plate, not stamped tin. Mount a pair under your workbench top and load it with a router, a vise and stacked plywood without visible deflection.
➤ Installs in under 10 minutes, mounting hardware included: M4 x 1.02-inch (25.9 mm) mounting screws are in the box, so you do not have to run to the hardware store mid-project. Drill, screw, fold, done.
How a spring-loaded hinge supports half a ton and then folds flat with one finger.
Each bracket contains a steel latch on a tension spring. Open the hinge to 90° and the latch drops behind a stop block, locking the bracket against any downward force. Stack 227 kg (500.4 lb) of plywood, kettlebells or tools on the surface above and the hinge will not shift and the latch will not let go.
Ready to fold it away? Press the small release tab on the side of the bracket. The latch retracts, the hinge swings down and the whole assembly rests flat against your wall or table base. Two seconds, no tools, no hassle.
Why DIYers and vanlifers come back for pairs and sets of four.
Builders often buy these for one project, such as a folding workbench, a Murphy desk or an RV galley extension, and then come back for more. Once you have used a bracket that locks itself, the non-locking kind feels like a risk. Mark T., who built a 5-foot (1.52 m) folding bench in his one-car garage, put it this way: "I loaded it up on day one with my belt sander and a vise. It has not moved since. I only wish I had bought four pairs the first time."
Build it once, fold it away forever: it pays for itself every time you clear the floor again.
✓ Reclaim your floor space without losing function: Fold the workbench, desk or bed flat against the wall and get your garage, office or bedroom back in two seconds.
✓ Steel that will not sag over time: 0.098-inch (2.5 mm) cold-rolled steel resists fatigue, bending and warping. The bracket you install today will still support the same 227 kg (500.4 lb) years later.
✓ One bracket, dozens of uses: Workbenches, Murphy desks, folding beds, RV galleys, boat tables, garage shelves, hidden countertops, dorm-room desks. If it folds, this bracket holds it.
Install your brackets in 3 steps.
1. Hold the bracket flat against your wall, table base or bed frame and mark the four mounting holes. Pre-drill if you are working with hardwood.
2. Tighten the included M4 mounting screws to anchor the bracket. Repeat for the second bracket. For most projects you will use one pair, and for spans over 1.2 m (3.9 ft) you will need two pairs.
3. Attach your tabletop or surface to the top plate, fold it up to 90° and listen for the latch to click. To fold it away, press the release tab and let it down.

Straight answers to frequently asked questions.
Does it really support 227 kg (500.4 lb), or is that just a label? Per pair, yes, under a static load that is evenly distributed across the surface. As with any bracket, you need to mount it into structural wood or studs, spread the weight across the tabletop and avoid dynamic loads that pull it loose at an angle. Think of it as a structural part of your build.
Will it work for a Murphy desk in an apartment with drywall? Mount it into studs or use heavy-duty wall anchors rated for the load. Drywall alone cannot support 227 kg (500.4 lb) with any bracket. The bracket itself is strong; the wall behind it determines what is safe.
How does the automatic lock release? Can I get trapped under my workbench? Each bracket has a small tab on the side. Press it once to retract the latch and then fold the bracket down. With a heavy load above, use both hands: one on the release and one to support the surface as it lowers.
Can I use these in a damp garage, an RV or on a boat? Yes. The Matte black version has a powder-coated finish that resists corrosion in damp conditions. For use on a boat in salty air, rinse it off occasionally and retighten the screws after the first month, just as you would with any steel part on the water.
Build the project. Clear the floor. Forget the bracket.
Install it, load it, fold it away. Build tough, fold smart and trust a hinge that locks itself.
